Dear families,
I hope you are having a great weekend!
This week we started a fun unit all about pirates! The children dove right in to the new dramatic play centre, the Lego pirate ship centre, and making pirate pennies shine in the science centre. The children drew treasure maps, made pirate puppet glyphs, and we read lots of pirate books. Thank you Hannah, Alex, Ruby, Kate and Catherine for bringing in pirate books from home! In science, we predicted which solution (between soap and water, vinegar, or vinegar and salt) would make pennies shine, did the experiment together, and then the children made their own "pirate pennies" to bring home. We'll continue this fun unit next week with lots of numeracy and literacy activities.
The children's Measurement folder went home on Friday with all their hard work inside including a balance they made with Miss. Santiago! Please encourage your children to continue their measuring skills at home. In the computer lab, the children have been working on Tynker and Peep Dance and Friends. With their reading buddies, the children finished and read a booklet called "Are You Cold?"
Last week was Groundhog Day! We did a lot of fun activities: we read books, watched videos about what Groundhog Day is, did a maze, drew pictures of winter and spring, and cut out groundhog pictures.
LKS attended an assembly about QSP this week. A package was sent home about QSP fundraising.
The words of the week were IT and WHY.
Please ensure your children have gloves and hats this cold February. I have spare gloves if they become wet but an extra pair of simple gloves is always a good idea.
The permission forms and online payment for our March field trip are due on February 8th. The last day for submitting February's Scholastic Order is Monday.
That's our news for this week :)
