Week of June 2-6

Dear families,

The children brought home their sight word folders on Friday. If your child didn't finish some read and write mini books, please encourage them to finish them and put them all in their bedtime book box.

This week we started our new unit on 2- and 3-D Shapes. We learned the names, built structures out of them, described them, and then drew what we built. The children also had fun doing a 2-D shape hunt in the classroom. Next week we'll do a 3-D shape hunt! The children are also learning about how many corners and sides each shape has (square vs. cube, for example; triangle vs. pyramid). Next week we'll do Venn diagrams to compare shapes. The children also drew shapes following instruction and a grid (make the smallest square you can; make the largest rectangle you can, e.g.).

The children did a terrific job presenting their poem "Open a Book" at the Sharing Assembly. Congratulations to the children who received awards for integrity.

Finally, thank you so much to our parent volunteers of this week: mystery readers Rhys' mom and Izzie's mom; white bags by Megan's dad and Lexa's mom and grandmother. Please return outstanding snuggle books.

Thank you and enjoy this beautiful weather!
