Dear families,

We enjoyed the snowy weather while it was here and started our Book Study of The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. This wonderful book won the Calldicott children's book award and we are completing text-to-self and text-to-text activities based on the story. We are also contrasting it with Robert Munsch's "Thomas' Snowsuit" which the children really enjoyed listening to.

Our "popcorn words" this week are it and is. Please help your child complete the little homework books I sent home this weekend. The JKs should practice writing these words in the booklet and the SKs should complete the booklet "It is..." with sentences and matching pictures, for example "It is snowy, sunny... etc." Weather words work well with this activity.

We completed fun activities with our Reading Buddies about Groundhog Day and will complete another sequencing activity this them this week as well as a 100th Day activity.

The 100th Day of School is this Friday, February 8. We will be doing several fun activities on this special day related to the number 100 and counting in 10s. Thank you in advance if you have volunteered to help on this day.

If your child is preparing Valentines please be sure they have one for each member of the class. Thank you! SKs should write their friends' names themselves on the cards. If you are sending in treats for the children please ensure they are nut- and sesame-free. Thank you!

Trip money and permission forms for the Young People's Theatre were due on Thursday. Please contact your Grade Parents if you would like to volunteer.

I will be doing our January Scholastic Order on Monday. The next Scholastic Order will be due on February 29th.

At our next Sharing Assembly on February 19 we will be celebrating the TDSB Character Trait of Fairness. Certificates will be presented to Aria, Lexa, Addison and Isobel who demonstrate this important character trait. I hope you will be able to attend!

Have a wonderful week!
