It's hard to believe there are only 2 weeks until the holidays! Please remember to provide your child with indoor crocs/slippers as well as gloves/mittens and hats; we have outdoor activites each day for approximately 20 minutes. If your child will be absent from school please let the office know.
This past week the children reviewed their six phonics sounds, the numbers 1-20, worked on their Phonics books, and reviewed the order of seasons/months of the year. We have started our unit on December/Holiday activities and the children love playing
/making Holiday Cards in the post office. The SK children completed numeracy activities ("before and after" numbers) and the JKs did dot-to-dot numbers 1-20 and letters A-Z. The morning class met with their Reading Buddies and worked together on their "Black Bear Booklet." This upcoming week the children and their Reading Buddies will make a Santa craft and make and then read a Holiday Words Book. We are all reviewing our many Sight Words and are learning not only to recognize and read them, but to spell them as well. "If you can read it, you can write it."
I couldn't remember if I thanked Quentin's mom Liza for the craft items and for the box of "Insect" activities/crafts and also for the inside of a wasp nest which demonstrated what our large wasp nest looks like inside and differentiated it from a bee hive. Thank you Liza!! Thank you as well to Logan's mom who provided the cute holiday craft items for the afternoon class. I am preparing several keepsakes for the children to make at our Holiday Party on December 20. Thanks to the parents who have kindly offered to help out on this day.
Thank you as always to my parent volunteers - Reading Club, Mystery Reader, Book Bags, Snuggle Books, Parent Reps of course. It means so much to the children to have their parents volunteer in their classroom.
Kind regards,
Beverley
