Great news from the Library! Author/Illustrator Dan Bar-el is traveling from his home in British Columbia to visit our Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 Classes on JANUARY 20th. Dan is the author of 2 chapter books that have been included in the Silver Birch Express lists, as well as "Such a Prince", which was an honour book in the Blue Spruce list for 2009. Today we read "Such a Prince" in class. If you would like to order a book from Dan when he visits the library please hand in the form that was sent home last week.
Please remember to work with your children in the yellow phonics booklets and to hand them in when finished.
I am completing assessments regarding writing numbers 1-10 and will send a note home shortly regarding your child's progress. I will also send home some sheets from the "Writing Without Tears" program to assist your child.
Our song for the Sharing Assembly is "Winter Is..." and the tune is to the song "Silver and Gold" from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Your child will take home his/her Song and Poem Book next week. Please ask your child to sing the song for you in preparation for our Assembly.
Thank you very much for bringing in slippers/indoor shoes for your children's cubbies. Please continue to encourage your children to get dressed for outdoors with minimal help.
In February we will be starting READING BUDDIES with Ms. Shklar's grade 3 class which is very exciting news! Your child will be paired with a Reading Buddy who will read to your child once a week.
To assist our TDSB Bag helpers please remind your child to place his/her snuggle book in the red snuggle book bin and his/her TDSB bag in the white bin, each morning upon classroom entry. Thank you.
Over half of the blocks in the big block area have been moved to Kindergarten Storage and the area is now open again for play.
February will be a busy month again and we will be celebrating 100th Day on February 11th and Valentine's Day on Friday, February 12th.
Finally, thank you very much for bringing in your old Christmas/Birthday/Other Celebration Cards for our use in the classroom craft area and writing centre.
Warm regards,
Beverley
