Week of May 26-30

Dear families,

This past week we continued our unit on Sight Words (aka Popcorn Words since they pop up so much in sentences). We talk about sight words all year and have a "word of the day" as well. The SKs had fun unscrambling sight words and writing them, and we all looked for sight words in our poem "Open a Book" on the Smartboard. The SKs worked at sight word centres doing read and write booklets and boards (dry-erase - always fun!). The JKs and SKs also did Sight Word word searches together. When the children's Popcorn Word folders go home this Friday, there will also be sight word booklets they've been working on and a list of the "100 Most Frequently Used Words". The kids' bedtime book box would be a great place for this!

The children are also working on a Father's Day poem (JKs and SKs) and story (SKs), as well as a special card for their dads.

With have started our unit on 2- and 3-D Shapes, and with our Reading Buddies the afternoon class made Shape Art (the morning class will do this with their Reading Buddies this week).

Thank you so much to our Parent Volunteers of this week: Mystery Readers Clive's mom and Megan's mom, and White Bags and Snuggle Books by Cole's dad and Victoria's mom.

It's hard to believe we are nearing the end of the year... The last week of school will be very busy, with our SK Graduation (more info to follow), Pizza Lunch on the lawn (you will receive your forms soon) and Report Cards going home! If you will not be in school for any part of the last week of school, please let me know so that I can send all your child's remaining school work home in his/her white bag in advance. Thank you! We will also be wrapping up the Snuggle Book lending library in early June to ensure all the books are returned before school is over.

Have a terrific week.
