Happy Friday

This week we read Eric Carle's "The Grouchy Ladybug" and completed several activities related to this wonderful story: we took turns placing spots on a big ladybug (left side for beginning sounds, right side for ending sounds), made little ladybugs, learned about "left, right, centre, top and bottom" and started to learn about telling time. Next week we will be completing writing and art activities about feelings (grouchy, happy, etc.). The children loved the book and if you have a copy please be sure to read it together. If you would like to borrow my copy just let me know.

Our new poem is called Down, down:

Down, down, down, down
The leaves are falling down
In their lovely dresses
Of red and brown
Down, down, down, down
While the flowers sleep
Careful as you run along
Don't make a peep.

Thank you for your Scholastic Orders. They arrived in three separate shipments and I am expecting one more. Our next order (Christmas and holidays) is due on December 1st to ensure everything arrives before the holidays.

Please remember that your permission forms and 19.00 for "Seussical" are due on Monday.

If you have volunteered to do White Bags/Snuggle Books and can't come, please be sure to call the school to let me know so that I can do the bags/snuggle books myself in time for dismissal. Please remember to return your child's Snuggle Books in their white bag, NOT in their Library bag. Thank you.

Thank you so much to this week's volunteers:

Morning Class: Dana's mom was Mystery Reader and also did Reading Club.
Afternoon Class: Taylor's dad was Mystery Reader, Taylor's mom did Reading Club and Olivia's mom did the white bags/snuggle books.

A special Thank You to Angelina's mom who generously donated boxes of paper plates, cups and napkins. Thank you so much!

The Refridgerator Words for this week are UP, ARE and ME.

If anyone has a pair of (Spanish) castanets I would very much appreciate borrowing them to help remind the children of their new C/K sound.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend!

This Week's News

Hello families,

This week we worked on colour and shape patterning and started our Phonics Folders. We have practiced/reviewed the sounds S,A,T,I,P and N. We are also learning about the changing seasons and our new poem is entitled Autumn Leaves:

Green leaves, yellow leaves, red leaves and brown,
Falling, falling, blanketing the town.
Oak leaves, maple leaves, apple leaves and pear,
Falling, whispering, "Autumn's in the air!"
Big leaves, little leaves, pointed leaves and round,
Falling, nestling, carpeting the ground.

We went to the Computer Lab and the children really enjoyed playing in Bailey's Book House (an excellent TDSB phonics/reading program). Please allow your child to practice using the mouse at home. A good idea is to put a little sticker on the (left) side of the mouse where you child "clicks" the mouse so they learn more easily how to position their hand.

Thank you for your Scholastic Orders! Most of the items have come in and I am anticipating that the rest of the orders will come in this week. The next order is due at the end of October.

We are going on a Field Trip to the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People. The Kindergarten Classes will be seeing the play "Seussical" based on Dr. Seuss stories. The morning class will go on Monday, November 28 and the afternoon classes will go on Tuesday, November 29. Please read the documents that were sent home on Friday and return your child's permission form and 19.00 by Monday, October 24 at the latest. If you would like to volunteer, each class requires 4 volunteers (their tickets and transportation are covered by the cost of the tickets). Please let your grade parents know and they will accept volunteers on a "first come, first serve basis".

Please be sure to return your child's Snuggle Book after you have practiced it so that s/he can take out a new one each week. A good day to remember to hand the book and your child's white bag is by each WEDNESDAY.

Finally, thank you very much to our Parent Volunteers of this week:

The white bags and snuggle books were done by Jack B's mom, Charlie's mom, Logan's mom and Myles' mom; the Mystery Readers were Sarah's sister Paige and Olivia's mom, and Reading Club was done by Charlie's mom, Tatum's mom and Jacob's mom. Please remember to check the volunteer schedule to confirm your date and if you are unable to come please let me know as soon as possible so that another parent has the opportunity to volunteer.

Thank you,

Beverley
